  • Identifying some vintage components

So here is a pic of some components I am trying to find out what they are . This is a FLOT-A-Tone 600 from the '60s. The one that looks like a carbon comp 1w resistor with 5 color bands wh,br,bl,gry, silver the other which is in series is wh,br,bl,grn, silver (sorry dark in the pic) these would be an awfully large resistor and the other is the 2 round red deals that look like some old thermistors or varistors but I didn't think varistors were around till the '70s. I have been searching online and I think the carbon comps are inductors BUT both read open when measured on the resistance scale and no capacitance across them either though my cap reader is a poor scale and I'm gonna borrow one from work later in the week. I've read online the wide silver band means military grade. Also on the 2 red deals I read about 70V across each of them but out of circuit read open . I'm drawing out a schematic for this amp so I'll have a pic of that soon. Hopefully it will be decent enough and you can see where these components are in the circuit. All are in the same run .Amp works fine just want to learn what I have here.

Here's my crude schematic . This goes into the PI . On the schematic the red deals are labeled TH and the carbon comp deals are labeled 910 to the 6th power and 910 to the 8th power. One is on the grid of the PI and the other is off the plate of the 2nd section of the 12au7. Hope this helps. The 12au7 is being feed from a trem circuit which is on the bottom of the schematic to the right. You're not seeing the speed pot. Hope this helps. Any knowledge is appreciated.

"2 round red deals that look like some old thermistors or varistors"

I'll take a stab at the items: they are varistors for a Tremelo circuit.

Yeah I was leaning on that to. It was the MOV that came about in the 70's my mistake. No idea on the other component ? That would be some very low capacitance if it was a cap.

So the others are a style of ceramic capacitor. Put them on a z meter and they read 720pf and 480pf.

just got one of these in with the schematic stapled inside the cabinet.

Thought I'd post it here for posterity and future use/searches.Click image for larger version

              Tweaked a bit.
