  • soldering those darn Fender RCA reverb cables

What is the trick to soldering the short RCA male plugs to external braid reverb cable? I can get it done, but it looks like Hell, and I know there must be a trick to it. If there was ever a case I wish I had a third hand....
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

Plenty of Heat and and Plenty of Flux. If your iron is powerfuul enough make a jig with and old rca female jack to hold the male rca end .

Use a vise to hold the signal plug of the RCA connector while you work, not the shield (because the vise will suck up heat from the shield, making it harder to solder).

Braid must be shiny brite clean or it won't accept solder.

You don't have to make a fancy connection, all around the plug "handle". If you can form the braid into a rectangular tab and get that soldered to one panel on the plug, that's all you need.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

I cut the wire to length, then pull out the inner signal wire.I then tin the ends of the braided ground shielding. Then using emery cloth I polish a spot on the plug and tin that spot with enough solder for the connection.Solder one end of the braid to one plug, snake the signal wire into the braid and into the plug and make that solder connection. Now just solder the signal wire to the other plug and then the braid to the outer shell of the plug.
