  • Ran into a problem the other day.

Not really a problem I guess but something I never really thought about. Ever heard of amps either playing forward or they play backward? ie. The amount of gain stages being either odd or even determining whether the speakers play inward first or outward? I felt kind of stupid when I read it in the Gerald Weber book Tube Amp Essentials. Makes total sense of course but just something I never really thought about. I've always checked speakers for phase but never really thought about the phase that comes out of the amp. lol

I guess its only a problem if there is a DI feeding the PA ie phase relative to something.
A good sound engineer could flip the polarity (phase) but spill could cause minor problems.
I suppose inducing feedback (of the musical variety) may be affected.

In the days of turntables, polarisation of the Hi-Fi speakers could be ultilized
to reduce rumble ..can recall Hi-Fi stores recomending trying it "both ways"
to see which way sounded better but then it only sounds good using
welding cable for speaker wires and even then I've heard electrons prefer
to travel down a speaker wire in a certain direction...
Never actually asked an electron which end of the wire it prefers to launch
    itself into....!
