  • Fame VS5012 - Tube amp - High input working, low input not

    Dear All,

I am a new member of this forum and I first would like to thanks others members and admins for the help they are offering.

I am actually stuck trying to repair the low input of a tube amp. The high input works fine but the low one does not and I don't understand why. When I plug the guitar jack inside the low input, no noize or sound is heard.
Here attached is a picture of the schematic I am using.
I have also add a picture of the final result(point-to-point soldering).
All resistors have been tested and the capacitor is a new one.
Could someone tells me what's wrong?

    Thanks.

Where did you get that schematic?

    I'm only aware of that

      Hello ChopSauce,

      Thanks for reply (and schematic)!

I used the original circuit board schematic, seems to be the problem.

Your schematic does not include a capacitor, how does it reduce the high tones?

If you mean parallel the 1M resistor with a small (47pF) cap, well... just do that

I'll try this on Monday, I'll let you know.
          Thanks

I don't have a Cliff jack in front of me but it looks like plugging into the Lo jack breaks the ground connection to the sleeve and connects the tip to ground.

I cannot reproduce this diagram because the wiring points (dots) are missing. Could you insert them please?

Also, I am not sure on which side is the mono jack inserted (left or right)? If inputs are on the right side (where "HI" and "LO" reside), then my cliff jacks have the tip on the left-up connector. If I use this diagram the tip is directly connected to ground (depending on wiring points maybe).

              Thanks.

99% of all Hi/Lo inputs are wired the same.

Use your meter to match your jack to this drawing.

Minos´picture and schematic shown on post #1 are WRONG.
What chopsauce and JPBass show is right.

Er... I think I see what you mean. You have stereo jacks. The simplest thing to do is to ignore the middle lug. You should just use the four extreme lugs of your jacks, amongt the 6.

You also should have understood that the dots in your layout are the yellow rectangles from the one I shown - from Common hookup info

                    Does that solve your trouble?

You could use a plug to check your jack wiring/understand how it works, as well.
