Hi. nickb was kind enough to send me schematics of the pre amp and power amp sections......I checked power supply filter caps for low values and high ESR but they checked ok...Owner was saying that when you turn up the volume, the sound would drop off and get distorted..I am waiting to hear back from him......in the meantime, there are two thermal cut-outs mounted to the heat sink.....one controls the fan as I tested it with a heat gun, but there is another one hard wired on the bottom of the power amp board and to a connector which then leads back to a connector on the power supply board....it is closed.....I heated this one up to see if it would open but it did not.....unless I didn't heat it up enough but I didn't want to damage any of the wiring......what is the function of this thermal sensor.....I can't find any reference to it on the schematics......
    Cheers

One of those wt400 power amp schems. shows a thermal breaker as a 'mute' at the power amp input.

Ok. Thank you very much for that...those thermal breakers were not shown on the previous schematic....that is why I had asked......
      Cheers
P.S. Looking at the owner's manual, it states that there is a thermal breaker for the fan and another breaker for extreme temperature which will kill the power amp but leave the pre-amp working.......the power amp will come back on once the temperature has dropped to a safe level......that must be what the second thermal switch is for......it measures closed under normal operation and opens up to prevent the power amp from getting damaged from excessive heat....
