  • Fender M-80 Chorus Dropping Out

I recently married two Fender M-80 amps to make one good one. I replaced one of the speakers from a 1 12" M-80 and changed out some controls. I have one irritating problem. When I engage the chorus channel by using the switch on the front panel, the amp cuts out one speaker completely and there is no chorus. So I changed the switch and was able to get the unit to do it intermittently, then I decided to change out the footswitch jack, and it improved greatly. Now it only cuts out if I wrap really hard on the top of the amp. There has to be a either a bad connection or an op-amp that is having some issues right? I thought I would see what you all think...thanks.

I know I'm digging up a ghost of a thread here, but I'm having the exact same problems with an M-80 Chorus. In my case, it started working after tapping around U5 (opamp), so I resoldered everything in that area. Things worked fine, until I started playing through it and it now stopped working again.

When it isn't working, the LFO section of the chorus still works. But there is no output at U5 pin1.

As far as I'm concerned, the switching is fine (including the 4053 switching chip) and I've resoldered every component in that area. Ideas?

SOLVED: Near U5 was a capacitor that had come loose on one of the legs. I shotgun resoldered the whole chorus area but most have missed that one.
