  • Tips on buying a replacement Transformer for a Gallien Krueger 700 RB

    Dear all
I have now identified that the problem with my Gallien Krueger 700 RB is the Transformer.
I have not been able to identify this as a spare part on my searches on the internet. Any tips on specs and where to buy, potentially as a OEM part would be apprecited.

Contact GK and ask if this part is still available, and if so, who can sell it to you where you are.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Just curious, what tests show your transformer is at fault?

Hi JM, I think I walked hlygne through the diagnostics in a previous post... if what he reported was indeed true then the transformer was one sick puppy. Enzo's suggestion may be the only hope in this case because that's a pretty elaborate power transformer with a pretty high VA, with 3 secondaries and that multitap primary, I highly doubt that you will find one off the shelf unless coincidentally it's the one made specifically for this amp.
... That's $1.00 for the chalk mark and $49,999.00 for knowing where to put it!

          Ok, thanks.

I was asking because statistically "the transformer is dead, isnīt it?" is a doubt often posted without much verification, beyond "the amp blows fuses".

Can you please link to the old thread, so I can read it? I only faintly remember it.

          Thanks.
