  • Fender Concert - Reverb Problem

    Hi,

I bought an 80's Rivera Model Fender Concert and the reverb is acting funky.

The amp sounds great when playing clean, but with the reverb on it sounds as if the reverb itself has a tremolo effect to it. The amp has no tremolo function so I am mystified. Also the reverb seems quiet compared to the other concerts I have played. I had a guitar tech replace all the caps and check the tubes right when I bought it, but this didn't help. to I was thinking maybe a spring broke in the reverb pan, but I am bit nervous to start pulling the thing apart.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Court

If as you say the reverb has a tremolo effect,it sounds like there is something oscillating.I dont think it would be a broken spring.Did the tech you bought the amp to replace caps to remedy this or was it just a maintenance kind of thing? If he was trying to fix the problem,I would bring it back, since he obviously didnt fix it.Do you get the tremolo effect only with the reverb on?Does it change when you manipulate the reverb control?

True, oscillation of some sort would seem the culprit, but what oscillates like that in an amp and only on the reverb path?

The caps were a maintenance thing. I was getting a lot of noise so I took it in.
I hesitate to bring it back to the tech because of the length of time he had it. Over a month! But he has done nice work for me before. I just wanted to see if this was something I could maybe fix. I am a relatively handy person, but amp repair does fall outside of my abilities unless guided. I didn't notice any alteration in the tremolo sound during manipulation when I get home tonight to check.

      Cheers,

Sometimes techs get backed up and cannot get to it right away. Call him and tell him what happened and see if he can get to it right away and have it back the next day. He may be able to go right to it as it's most likely a cap to ground or a filter he created by mistake causing the oscillation. It may be hard for you to do without a scope but I would get the schemo and trace it out to see if everything is going where it should.
