  • Tubes a light but no sound?

    Hi All,
    Trust that you are well.

Amp issue that I would be appreciative of any thoughts as to what my be going on.

I have an issue with my tube amp (ENGL screamer 50) https://englamps.de/wp-content/uploa...eamer_Head.pdf

The V5 power tube socket seems to be dead... when I check for current using my bias probe I am getting 0 Amps from the Socket

Interestingly the tube (6l6gc) appears to be firing (glowing) but is not drawing current (so it seems) the second power tube V6 socket is working and I can see it is biased at 35 mA sound is coming from the amp when this V6 tube is installed... no sound at all when just V5 is installed...

All preamp tubes also seem to be firing...

Strange one and requires deeper analysis than I can give.

Please let me know your thoughts?

    Cheers

Open screen resistor? Check for proper DC voltage at pin4 of that 6L6 socket.

edit: you're new here so we don't know your level of expertise. That suggestion I gave is form someone who is used to working on tube amplifiers.
If you are not, it is probably not safe for you to look inside it.

Thanks G1 - at least this gives me an idea of what may be going on to at least discuss with a repairer! Appreciate the reply.

One more thing you can try (if you haven't yet) is swapping around V5 and V6. If the problem stays with the tube, then it's just a dud tube.
