  • Marshall JCM 2000 DSL401 Tube Replacements

Got in a JCM2000 DSL401 Dual Super Lead for repair. It's a 40 watt, 1-12 combo. Customer complaint- low power. Opened it up, has what appears to be original tubes, probably 5 years old. Pull the EL84's to pop in a new set, and new EH's wont fit through the chassis holes! The base side of the tube bottle is just a hair too large to fit through. I check a set of Sovteks same problem, not surprized as they come from the same place.

Has anyone run into this problem before, and what brands of EL84s will fit?

    Thanks in advance.

El-84's ? That should be EL-34's. Are do you mean 12AX7 preamp tubes holes. ?

DSL401 KB, not DSL100. That is why I never say "JCM2000." They are EL84s. JJs fit, I recall. I ran into this also.

WHat brand was in it before? They fit didn't they?

EIs might fit, but I never use that brand, too many bad ones for me.

Ok that makes sense and Sovteks should fit also then but I have noticed some a little fatter.

All of the tubes in this are "generic" Marshall tubes. The pre-amps aren't even marked with an ECC number.

I already tried the Sovteks, so I'll order a quad of the JJ's.

          Thanks for the input.

I had one that somebody tried to "enlarge" one of the holes with some sort of blunt instrument and they physically destroyed some of the surrounding components!!!!
I forget what I used as a replacement, but if fit through the hole, snugly I might add.
