  • Blown Fender Deluxe 85

I had two guitars playing at low volume through the two channels of a Fender Deluxe 85. Two loud pops later each channel now only plays at low volumes. Any ideas what happened? Could it be blown fuses or worse?

    Thank you, Brian

Plug a cord into the preamp out jack and the other end right back into the power amp in jack. Does this restore the sound? Or for that matter just plug something in and out of the power amp jack a few times. If these help, the power amp in jack needs service or replacement.

No help? OK, now plug a guitar into the power amp in jack. is the output strong or still weak? This tells us if the power amp is faulty or the preamp. Likewise you could connect a cord from the preamp out jack to another amp to listen to what the preamp is producing.

Or this, with the amp running and the reverb control at mid point, rock the amp a bit to shake the reverb springs. Does the loud reverb SPANG come out the speaker or is that weak too?
