  • Choke resistance too high?

Restoring an old Gibson EH150 that has a bad/open choke
Found a nice old one in an old piece of test equipment, but the resistance is about 350 ohms.

    Think that's a little high?
Looks about the same size as the original, of course current rating is what matters.

The amp has a field coil speaker, so the choke is only for the preamp tubes.

With the interstate trans, this thing has 5 transformers!

    This is the 6N6 version?

Hard to know without specs on original part. I did find this thread where the poster lists node voltages (first post).

You could tack the choke in and see how your voltages compare.

Is this the schematic for your amp?

I tacked in a 100 ohm resistor for testing, it dropped 30 volts.
I have the schematic at my work computer I'll link.

This thing is in real nice shape, with the matching Charlie Christian guitar the guy has.

        Thanks.

Oh, that's cool! Can we see a picture?

            Thanks for that link!

Aside from the handle, this thing looks almost new.
Filter caps enclosed in cardboard boxes were toast, so I made up replicas to house new caps.

The resistors were all within tolerance, and coupling caps aren't leaky, go figure.

I took chassis pix and will take more and get some of the guitar when I deliver the amp.
