  • control pot question for amp

    Good Afternoon,
This may be a stupid question but I'm trying to do a no charge repair for one of our local schools during the shutdown and run into an issue that I hope someone can answer on this GREAT forum.
The fender amp (Ultimate Chorus) has a broken off shaft. The one that's broken has an unusual taper and I do not have one in my parts bin to replace. I do have another pot from an earlier repair on the same amp that is the same manufacture and mounting just a different taper. I believe the resistance track controls the taper which is fine on the broken shaft unit. Can I take apart the pots and use the shaft /wiper assembly from the one unit to repair the broken shaft pot?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Take the new pot apart to extract the shaft. Just to make sure the pot can be disassembled. If that works, then sure, do it. I have done that many times. In fact in my pots drawers I often had left over resistive elements from just such repairs. In my experience, plastic shaft pots can often be taken apart that way. The metal shaft pots often can't.
