  • Roland Bolt 100 - Adjustable bias

Just replaced tubes (4x6L6GC) on my roland bolt 100 and measured the idle current to around 19 mA, which is veeeery cold.
So - I better change the non-adjustable bias to an adjustable one!
As far as I can see from the schematic (found it on http://bolt60.no.sapo.pt/)
it is a matter of replacing thr R5, 22k ½W, resistor with a 22k potmeter with a 10k resistor in serie. This should give me enough to adjust the bias to the right spot!
    My question(s) is:

Do I mess something else up in the amp by doing this?
Will the OT suffer from this change?
    Has anyone done this before?

Looking forward to hear from you!

The amp has no idea one of its resistors became adjustable. This modification is done ALL THE TIME on just about any amp you can think of that is not already adjustable. This won't hurt it, unless you leave the bias set just stupidly hot and the tubes melt down and short out.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      Thanks for the response.
Actually I did not worry so much about replacing the bias resistor with an adjustable setup.
My concern is that the fixed bias resistor is 22k and I had to adjust all the way down to 7k to get the proper idle current. I had a little fear that this could be to much for something!!!

I did the drill and now its working and nothing seems to be "to hot" or "wrong color" or "smoking" or "melting down" anything else.
Has not got the chance to play the amp at fulle speed - I'm living in an apartment.

      Thanks again!
