Peavey speaker or something else....

Hi,
Got a Peavey Classic VTX series guitar amp for many years.
Two 12'' Scorpians built in, one has been bad for some time, and the other
plays. Recently started playing the amp again, but now the amp shuts
down for 10 minutes or more sometimes. Power lights stay on, but no
sound. Can this ONE speaker overheat and shut down? Or has the electronics
of the circuit board met it's time limit? I can order speakers for the amp,
but the electronics I'll have trouble with.

Well who knows? You can order new baskets for the Scorpions right from PV. We don't know the condition of the one working speaker, it might be about to die too. COnnect the speakers to some other amps and see how they work. Likewise, connect this amp to some other speakers to verify exactly what it does and does not do.

If the amp indeed is coming and going, then we need to isolate the problem to the preamp or power amp and so on.
