I think Sovteks were in there originally, but probably not the military version.

I ordered a replacement set from Eurotubes last night. I guess, like you said, the little tubes don't last too long in combos.

I just ordered some of those thick o-rings from Sandy.

I'm going to put them on this new set of tubes coming from Eurotubes. Hopefully, the rubbers will extend their life also.

          Tube Rattle

A lot of the suggestions here will help. But you can not stop the electronic componants inside the tube from smashing up against the glass when certain notes are played.
EL-84s are notorious for rattling. You can buy a new set of tubes...it's a roll of the dice. Your new tubes could be just as bad out of the box as the ones that are in there now.
As the gentleman stated, tubes were not designed to have 115db of sound pressure inches away. Even brand new tubes will start to rattle over time. Every time the amp is used the tubes get the crap shaken out of them. Like anything else, it will start to develope "play" between the elemants & the glass.
I had the resources to take a box of 100 tubes & one @ a time tap on it while holding it to my ear to listen for that jangling sound. If it rattled I would not use it. When I found a good pair I would install them.
In a year it would be back for the same thing.
Up side...your not using 6550s...EL84s are cheap.
