  • Newbie - Need Help with Tube Amp

OK - just bought my first tube amp - an early 70's Fender Princeton Reverb. I know absolutely nothing about it. It was shipped and upon opening, the three tubes were packed separately - two 6 volts and one 12 volt. There appears to be three slots for these three tubes and they look like they would fit in any of the slots. Is there a certain way to configure these tubes??

Also - been playing with other amps before this and they all had standby switches - this amp does not - can you turn her on and just fire her up??

    HELP!

Thanks! Signed - Anxious to Play!!

Are you sure you only got three tubes? What is stamped on the tubes?

Edit, oops, didn't realise it was a Princeton Reverb: look inside the cabinet, there should be a label showing which tubes go where
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Thanks - you folks are great - what's the purpose of the Speed and Intensity controls - amp seems to be working fine - but those controls don't seem to do much? Sorry - been an acoustic man all my life and I can tell you everything you wanted to know about an Acoustic - but don't know the first thing about electric guitars and amps.........

You need a footswitch or a shorting plug in the trem control jack to turn the trem ON.

A schematic and layout are available at the Fender Field Guide

              Hope this helps!

                  - oh it's not all roses on the electric highway. Wait till the local bluegrass association get to hear of it, they'll be burning fiddles on your lawn. Then there's the garage full of "investment" amps, the high frequency hearing loss...
