  • Questions about old Univox amp

I just bought an old Univox amp off ebay, and first of all this thing sounds amazing. Had a couple questions though. The plate voltage on the input stage(half 12AX7) is 64VDC. Dont have a schematic so I dont know for sure, but that seems really low. The other 3 preamp stages run about 150-170VDC. Maybe its intended, what do you guys think? Also, and I dont know the correct term for this, but the bluish glow that surrounds power tubes is only present on only of the 6AQ5's, and of course it flickers with the speed of the tremolo when engaged. Theyre both RCA. Is that normal? thanks guys

    >> The plate voltage on the input stage (half 12AX7) is 64VDC.

Some amps are designed to run on low voltages, so this might be fine.
The plate voltage is usually set at 1/2 B+, which allows for max headroom.

Sounds like you've got a great amp!

      EET,

i had sent them a load of material on Univox and they have schematics for most of the Univox amps. Good luck.
