  • Loftech TS-1 power transformer needed

    Hey all,
I have a Loftech TS-1 Audio test set and the power tranyy is toast. I emailed Loftech and they said that a replacement is around $50. It looks like a 12 dollar tranny. There's no designator markings on it so can't cross reference it...
If someone has one of these TS-1's and you feel up to it, even an idea of what the secondary voltages would help...It looks like a split bobbin type trafo with + & - legs referenced to a center tap.
    Thanks!

    OK, reverse engineer it.

WHat power supplies does the transformer feed? I would guess a +/- supply of some sort - +/-12 or +/-15 maybe? Look for a couple three leg voltage regulators like 7815/7915. Is there any logic circuitry needing +5?

Look at the main filter caps, what voltage are they? If they are 35v types I might expect 20-25vDC after the rectifier, and before the regulators. 25VDC means roughly 18-0-18VAC from the tranny. Does it appear to be just the three legs on the secondary side?

The caps and the regulators ought to get you pretty close to what yu need.

The physical dimensions will tell you approximately the wattage of the thing. A rough estimate is probably close enough.

If you look in Mouser or similar catalogs you will see transformers grouped in power ratings. A 12v 1A transformer would be the same size as a 24v 0.5A transformer - 12 watts.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
