  • Valve Junior-intermittent cutting out

Hi, this is my first post. I tried searching on this before starting a new thread. I have a Epi Valve Junior head version. The amp has started cutting out intermittently. When this happens, both tube filaments go out, but the light stays on. The filaments come back on in a few minutes, and everything is fine again for another few minutes. I suspected a bad solder joint, but could not see any bad connections. I tried running a fan behind the amp with the chassis open in case it was heat related, but the same problem occurs. If the PT, or part of it, is bad, would it be intermittent like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One of the known defects with these amps is varnish inside the fuse holders coming off of the power transformer. Take the fuses out and using some fine grit sandpaper, scuff up the inside of the fuse holder.

      nope...

Tried scuffing the contacts, and also pushing the fuse holder together when it cut out again. Thats not it, but thank you.

does this amp have a rectified filaments? If so you might check the bridge rectifier for loose solder joints. if that is the problem you should resolder it and attach a heatsink and some "bird poop" to fix it.
