  • SJ68568 to-3 output x-istor

Any info out there on this Mot house numbered part? Came out of a PAS (!!) CS-800 knock off. This amp appears to be a later issue (84 date codes on the output devices) and is *MUCH* easier to service. Man...I need a curve tracer.....

Enzo is your man here, but I'd be surprised if a MJ15024 didn't work. Or a MJ15025 if your mystery device was PNP. They're about the biggest, meanest audio transistor you can get in a TO-3. There are better ones out now, but they're all in plastic packages.

Just watch out for counterfeit devices, I've heard tales of people basically scraping the print off 2N3055s and rebranding them as the good Motorola audio output devices.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Like Steve said, use the MJ15024/15025 combination, and make sure that they look kosher when you purchase them. These transistors will work in just about anything with a TO-3 case. For this reason, it's the only TO-3 transistors we now stock in the shop.

These guys beat me to it, that MJ15024/25 pair is like the Swiss Army KNife of output transistor subs. That is what I'd throw in there.

Sorry for the necro bump...but does anyone have any information on the PAS 800 amplifier? I was given one, and curious if any documentation exists for it. Can't seem to find anything online. Thanks!

No, these are not Peavey amps.

There was once a home made amp company in Detroit selling as PAS. Then there was also a PAS in California who had nothing to do with the Detroit ones.

We always referred to either one of them as PAS - piece a shit, Sorry.

Found a little ditty here that indicates Bruce Egnater may have been involved.

Interesting. Me and the original buyer live in California, but he cannot remember where he bought it, and he went on tour to the midwesst all the time in the 80s, so who knows at this point hehe.

Did you service these back in the day? Did they have a reputation for poor reliability or..??

What's wrong with the amp? Looking at the pictures, it doesn't look all that complicated. It might be something you can fix without a schematic.

I havent fired it up yet. Going to run through it in a few days. Was just wondering if any documentation existed while Im waiting to free up some bench space and fire it up.
