  • Tape on reverb tank coils - why?

I have a Kustom 100 amp that has electrical tape around the two coils in the reverb tank. There's one piece on each end and one in the middle.

Why would they tape the coils together?
    Maybe for shipping?

Would it sound better if the tape was removed?
Or, should I leave them in place (and replace the one that fell off)?

    It's an unusual question.

    Thanks!!

    Ron

Remove it and see what happens! Probably a poor attempt to correct an over slappy reverb - I seem to remember the Kustoms - the original Cinty ones - as having unpleasant reverb so this may be someone's atempt to correct it (might be thinking of another brand but Kustom sounds right). Thermonuclear explosion due to cold fusion is unlikely but you're not very near where I live so why not find out <grin>? (gotta watch out for those Cinty amps)

That's most likely correct -- the reverb on this thing is HUGE.

I'll check with the owner to see if he wants it left in.
