  • Need help with Evh 5150 III 50w head

I purchased an evh 5150 50w with matching 2x12 cab about a year ago. I didn't play it for about a month and found it sounded way different when I turned it on the other day. The blue channel has lost it's "umph". The gain is greatly reduced, and there is very little low end compared to what it had when it was new. The red channel still has tons of gain, but also doesn't have the low end or as much depth.

I have replaced the 3 12ax7 preamp tubes that channel 2 uses to see if that would help along with the 2 6l6 power tubes. I also replaced the battery for my active pickups in my guitar. Still sounds exactly the same.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Plug and unplug a jack plug into the effects send/return socket. It may have tarnished contacts due to being unused.

If you can't fix it, I probably can.

I tried that just now. Still the same.

That's odd as Ch1 and Ch2 share the same components all beit through a relay or two. K3
We are talking about the Peavey EVH5150 Mk3?

That's correct. The mk3. The clean sounds ok. I don't use the channel 1 gain enough to tell if it sounds different. Channel 2 is the main problem. Even with the volume around noon, it is still very muffled sounding.

Just ton clarify; Inputs 1 & 2 are low/muffled, input 3 is fine.
I would check Q2. If it is switched on, that will mute the signal but if faulty could do almost anything.
Lifting the Drain will disconnect it.
