I'm working on an amp that got an unwelcome visit from the beer fairy. The resulting fire turned a 1" diameter section of the PCB to charcoal. One of the PCB mounted PT sockets got a pretty good marshmallow style roasting from the fire, but it's still solidly intact. At the risk of asking a stupid question, can I still use the socket if I thoroughly remove all the burnt stuff with a wire brush or something, or would that still be asking for it?

Aside from cosmetics, 3 problems. The heat may have annealed the socket so the pins are not sufficiently springy anymore. The plating could be damaged. The fire will have left carbon (slightly conductive) and possibly tiny surface cracks all over the socket. Has to be cleaned really well. I would replace it if possible. Won't help the long term reliability.
