Push-on knobs & spline shafts alignment

Ever get bothered by lack of alignment of the indicator line on push-on knobs that mate with spline shaft pots? If it was to be done intentionally, think of all the steps one would have to do in the manufacturing stage of all companies making both the pot shaft assemblies that integrate into complete pots, and that of the knob companies to get their insert mechanics to land in such a fashion that the seemingly constant outcome is misalignment?!! Must be related to the packaging of hot dogs and hot dog buns.

Today's candidate is the GK 2001RB.

I sometimes loosen the pot nut to see if I can tweak the rotation of the chassis mounted pot to get thing to align better....

.....usually even with that it's...... "not quite there"..... esp with pots that have a locating lug or tab.

No locating tab?
Easy....

Board mounted? Impossible...

Have you tried sanding the inside of the knob smooth, then applying a bit of a wedge in the split of the shaft so it can cut new slots in the knob to your perfect alignment?

I'm not THAT OCD.... if I can't tweak it to get it even close, I set the knob somewhere other than 0 or 10 and then I don't/can't notice....

I used to be OCD but since it has driven me the wrong way so,many times now I couldnīt care less.

Like the joke goes, it should be 'CDO' in correct, alphabetical order!

And donīt forget to check that all letters are exact same height, some printers canīt be trusted.

At least when we had typewriters we could get out the needle files and try to fix that!
