  • Gavitt Cloth pushback wire - safe or not to use in amps?

The only supplier I can find is Gavitt and they give no insulation rating on this wire, they told me specifically UL does not recognize waxed cloth as insulation so no rating is implied or stated. Yet I've seen it used in both modern and vintages amps many times. Not sure if it's the same wire but I have to assume it is because I cannot find another supplier?

    What say the gurus?

With no certification, if you use it, you accept full responsibility.

I was asked to use this once, and even though the customer offered me a financial incentive, I refused to touch it.

What is Gavitt cloth pushback wire? Is it the same as what Mojotone sells?
It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

Mojo doesn't list their supplier, but since I've looked quite a bit and could only find Gavitt as a current manufacturer, I'm guessing yes.

Mojo does not list a voltage rating for the insulation.

Huh. I've used the Mojo cloth wire for about a decade in builds and repairs with no problems or concerns. I'm not worried about it.

Perfectly safe in a circuit for point to point wiring, looks the part in older amps and guitars. A bitch to strip neatly for tinning/soldering but worth it.
They use Celanese as the substrate between the conductor and the cloth backing. Fairly temperature resistant and reasonable insulating properties. Doesn't split on a sharp bend, like PTFE insulated wire does.
Support for Fender, Laney, Marshall, Mesa, VOX and many more. https://jonsnell.co.uk
If you can't fix it, I probably can.

It is no less safe than it ever was, it just doesn't have official approval to UL standards for commercial products.

It is. They repeat that there is no rating stated or implied.

I guess it's use at your own risk.
