  • Ampeg Micro-CL bass guitar amp - Sudden onset PS hum

Overnight my Micro-CL appears to have lost a PS capacitor.
Has a significant hum undiminished by volume or other settings.
Curious: Anyone have ideas best way to unglue these?
    What a mess.

Problem: Sudden onset major hum, not impacted by any of the controls.
Replaced the two 3300-mfd 63v power supply filter capacitors.
Violated "Good Housekeeping" rules (keep all leads as short as possible) and remoted the caps towards the back of the head, making any future replacement much easier.

Put them where they go and see how it sounds. Violating rules without knowing the reasons is an invitation to problems. Longer leads can act as antennas picking up noise and amplifying it.

One thing you should check for is DC at the speaker jack. You should have the speaker unhooked until DC has been removed if it is there.

The OP appears to be posting a resolution if I am not mistaken.
Rant: you have to love the ball grid IC that Vox used. (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package)
