    Hi

I would like some advice on this issue. A friend brought this amp to me and told me that the passive input has a problem. He said when he plugged his CD player into the passive input, it was badly distorted. When he plugged it into the active input, then the sound was OK. I tried and yes it was distorting badly but when I plugged a "tape out" signal from my turner, it sound OK. The active input sound OK. Is this normal or is there a problem with the passive input. Please advice.

    Thanks

    Carlos

Overdriving the signal . Bigger question is does it sound ok with an instrument?
    I think its ok.

CD player is not a passive device, it is active. So what is happening makes sense.
If the CD player has an output level control and he turns it down, there is probably a point where the output will be low enough that it will not overdrive the passive input.

        Finger trouble.
That is exactly what I would expect due to the internal wiring of the inputs. Click image for larger version
