  • Anyone familiar with Badcat amps?

Ive got a Cub 40R here on the bench. Had a bad hum but i found a cap that "popped its top" . Replaced = Hum is gone.

This has a digital reverb and it works but, it has this crazy weird noise in the back ground if its on.....i cant describe it....like a very distant , light feedback but digital?? Has anyone heard this issue on these amps?

Also , i notice it has 2 green LEDs for clipping on the pcb . When playing it hard , gain on 10 , it only lights up 1 of the LEDs.......is that normal ?? They are CR3 , CR4 -CR4 doesnt light up at all .

i dont have a scem and cant find one !

I don't have a schematic, and good lucking getting one. Badcat doesn't like to share. The noise you're describing sounds like possibly noise/poor filtering from a high frequency switching supply or bad filtering on a D/A converter. Can you tell if there's a little SMPS for the digital verb? If you find such a thing, I'd look for a bad cap or caps on the secondary of the supply. This is just a guess based on symptoms. If you could upload some pictures, we might be able to make better suggestions.

When I installed a DIY Belton/Accutronics BTDR digital reverb module in my amp, I found the wires running to the Time and Tone controls very sensitive to noise/oscillation/interference. I had to shield the runs to the controls.

I can't see if there's any way to move wires around in your amp, but it's worth a look. This is something you can listen to as you move wires (high voltage warning applies--use a non conductive tool like wooden chop stick).

Put a scope on it, maybe the LED has no reason to light.

                Did you test the LED?

                    OK, so scope.

Is ther any DC offset ?

I meant they have same voltage and test good in diode mode on meter. No scope
                      .

What about a 9v an a 1k resistor to test led action?

9v lights the good led. When applied to the other...no light..but the good Led flickers
