Perhaps the old one didn't light because it was miswired?

If I do recall, the five leg switch is a DPST with inner lamp. SO you wire the four switch terminals to break the two mains power wires. Leaving the fifth. Is one of the terminals a different color metal? That one would be the inner bulb. One end of the bulb is wired inside to one of the switch poles. The free end must be wired to the other side of the 120v somewhere.

I am looking for an example wiring guide.
