I hooked up something along these lines for a friend who liked to play his music LOUD. He had two sets of speakers, but one was half the power rating of the other. I did some math and incandescent lawn lamps (12V) worked out pretty well to share the power - so I hooked up a pair of garden lights in series with his lower powered speakers and he had a light show that pulsed in time with the music.

For historical context - - - Besides these PA and bass cabs, way back @ 1980 those big UREI 813 monitors started to be popular in studios that could afford them. Crossover included lamps that glowed behind red & green jewels when loud passages put the screws to them. Studio I worked in had (only) a Crown DC300A powering the 813's, and we weren't the sort of folks to demand disco volumes from the big monitors. Every so often a little flicker from the red lamp if we cranked up a bit. I'm pretty sure the lamps were automotive types with bayonet bases. This isn't the future I signed up for.
