That is what a standby is, a mute switch. SIlvertone/DanElectro often used this method.

I must disagree with Enzo on this point.
Why did Marshall, Fender, Selmer, Ampeg and many more, call that switch next to the power switch standby ... because it turns the output stages off either by removing the anode voltage, screen grid supply voltage or allows the cathodes to rise above cut off point. Removing quiescent current present in the output stage. That is called switching it off but leaving the heaters alive for a fast on time.
Mute cuts the signal and in more advanced amplifiers, turns the solid state amplifier off by reducing the drive capability, not removing power.Support for Fender, Laney, Marshall, Mesa, VOX and many more. https://jonsnell.co.uk
If you can't fix it, I probably can.

There is hardly a benefit regarding tube (valve) life from stopping idle current with heaters powered. In fact some reports indicate the opposite.Last edited by Helmholtz; 07-21-2022, 07:35 PM.- Own Opinions Only -

Fender et al did it one way, SIlvertone did it another, and there are even still other methods. Peavey ;leaves the plates on but turns off the screens. In any case, it ensures your guitar up on stage leaning on a speaker doesn't start feeding back during your break. The amp stands by.Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Hi all,
Was able to get the amp running pretty easily by just installing a new 1/4 jack, hooking it up to one of the transformers, and removing the pair of tubes from the transformer I'm not using. I then spent most of Sunday cleaning things up, recapping all the electrolytics, removing the death cap, and installing a grounded power cord. What a pain to work on this amp but it sounds pretty great and the price is right!
I don't plan on hooking up the 2nd output transformer, this is plenty loud going into a 4 ohm cab with 2 12" speakers. The speakers are 25W, this should be ok for this amp with just the one OT?
Thanks very much for the help with this!
