  • Marking Replacement Capacitors

    Hey Everyone,

I got the idea recently that it would be a good idea to start marking the date or year of replacement on reservoir caps on amps as I do them. This way the next tech who works on the amp knows when the replacement was made. My question is, what are some of the methods that y'all use to mark capacitors? Sharpie? Paint pen? Do you even bother doing it at all?

Interested to hear what everyone thinks.

(also not sure if this thread is in the right place)

While I keep that information in my service notes log, I've never thought of actually marking the caps after replacing them. Usually I select replacement parts that have date codes on them. Nichicon and United Chemicon are two mfgrs that do have them on the side of their cans. Maybe Avery Label circles that could attach to the top of the can? sharpie sounds like a suitable way as well.
