  • Replacement for 1997 Drake 1202-324 power transformer

I am working on a 1997 Marshall 1987X 50 watt amp using two EL34 output tubes and three 12AX7 preamp/phase inverter tubes. The amp has a shorted primary on the Drake 1202-324 transformer. (I have never come across this problem before.) So it is going to need a new power transformer. Unless you object, I am going to go with a Hammond P-T290GX.

    p-t290gx.pdf

Unfortunately I cannot find the exact schematic for this amp. The schematics I did find were close but not exactly my amp layout. Plus, there are no voltages indicated on the schematics. And finally, I could not find information on voltages/current for Drake transformer.

If you can't fix it, I probably can.

Thanks Jon. I once ordered a Fender Bassman Ten output transformer from Tube Depot. Since they are located in Germany it took many weeks to get here.

          The Dude:

Thanks for the tip on the website. Gee it would have been nice if they had provided dimensions and electrical specifications for their transformers. :-(

Tube Depot is in the States.
            Do you mean TAD?

Ooops! Yes I meant Tube Amp Doctor (TAD) is in Germany. Great products but expensive and slow delivery.

From what I can see, it is a clone of the Drake part #. That does not give you specs., but it should be direct replacement.
