  • Princeton 1966 power supply cap question

Since it uses 20/20/20/20 multisection cap that is not available in Europe, but I can source 40/20/20/20, could I subsitute it with? There are 2 section on the original schematic joined by resistor (is it for smoothing, right?), so what will be the best way to make it right with 40/20/20/20? Drop the resistor and ake one section there? (like pic#2 /red writing)?

Do not drop the resistor. It's essential to drop voltage for preamp supply.
I see no problem using the 40/20/20/20 can.
Use the 40µ section for the first node which connects to pin 2 of the GZ34.

While I agree with Herr Helmholtz about the resistor - I might suggest you wire the 40u on the preamp stage if you want to retain the power amp dynamics of the amp. The 40u on the plate supply may stiffen up the supply enough that you'll notice some difference at full tilt.

Thanks, I am also a bit aware of 40uf power the rectifier. Wouldn't be to much rasing the 2x the cap at this place?

You could try the 40uF in each of the 4 filter cap spots. See which position you like it best.
If you really want to stick with the stock value, add a single 40 in series with the 40 section, the two 40s in series will make a 20uF.

            What does tube data say?

            IIRC, limit is 60µ.
