JC120 power switch needs replacing.

Nothing is ever easy is it? I need to replace a power switch. I figure great, I have a spare parts JC120. But no, they are different. The one to replace looks like this

and the spare looks like this



It looks like the first has diodes attached to it, and the second a capacitor. Are the diodes for surge protection of maybe they are rectifiers? Are they really necessary? I would like to do something simpler.

You can see the capacitors. You can't see the diodes.
These capacitors here are spark-absorbing capacitors, so that the switch contacts are less likely to burn.

Sorry that pic wasn't clear enough. If you can expand the pic, there are 2 blocks on one side and 1 block on the other.

Agree. I don't see diodes. I only see caps, probably for arc suppression. Also could be MOV's. We need better pics and close up pics of the devices. It also looks like one of the caps has a lug that may have gone to ground- possibly a death cap.

Edit: The schematic shows only a single cap across the switch.

That's my first time seeing those types of caps. Knowing that, I was able to wire up the spare. Seems to work. Closing this one and thanks. And thank God this forum renewed its certificate. Life is much easier.
