    It seems reasonable to describe the Marshall designed / built TB/X as having a hot switching standby. ie in standby, the reservoir cap remains uncharged.

      You're quite right, my apologies. I did make sure to look at the schematic before I posted, but apparently saw what I expected to. Think I somehow mistook the choke as the standby, I clearly need to pay better attention.

        Hi chaps,

        got the new fuses, put one in.. & back working again. I do have a minor fizzy hum now, but the back is off/ hope this will F-off. So I'll monitor things & update.

        A huge relief though- got my fingers crossed. Very grateful for the replies.
