  • SWR Workingmans 15

So my mate blew his workingmans 15 combo. I had a quick look and nothing seemed obvious and someone was selling a WM 160 locally which is the head version. So I modded his cab to fit that and he's happy as we needed a quick fix for a bunch of gigs. I've now go the ex-combo amp sat on my bench and I'd like to fix it. I've fixed a number of tube amps and built one. I get those, but I can't begin to get my head around this solid state thing. It blew the main fuse and something is pulling a heck of a lot of current if I try to replace the fuse.
Can anyone give me any pointers on where to start investigating?

It's one of the earlier models. I've found the power section here:

Doesn't seem like Fender hold the schematics on their site anymore.

Appreciate any input. The amp owes us nothing so just trying to save it from the bin. So a nice learning tool!

Check the 2SC3264 output transistors to see if they're shorted. Also check the bridge rectifier for shorts.

First of all check if there's DCV at the output.
Large DCV can destroy the speaker, so don't connect before DCV is zero.
Also removing the load might avoid blowing the mains fuse.

Check this thread for one I worked on a few months ago. Not directly related to your blowing of fuses, but of note was to add the balance resistors to the driver transistors. https://music-electronics-forum.com/...al-discrepancy
