  • Anyone ever work on a Carvin V3M?

    Hello all,
I'm kinda fond of the V3M, it was my first tube amp, but the sound of the gain channels (ch 1 & 2) is notoriously awful: dry, fizzy, harsh, very high forward, like one of those bad distortion pedals. It's not something that can be dialed out or fixed with EQ pedals or different tubes. Anyone ever mod one of these things? Or for that matter anyone willing to look at the schematic to see if something stands out?

    Thanks

It seems most of the important circuits for channels 1 and 2 are in the 'Blocked" areas. Other than that, V1A looks to be a cold clipper but has C13 across it's 10K cathode resistor. Try removing C13 to see how you like it.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !

This is for the full size amp, but I suspect it may be similar.
