which seems to match up with what chipaudette said - the way it's configured, there's no chance of much overdrive.
I think these amps would be tricky to mod.
What would help is for the tone stack to be moved to the output of V2B, in the same way that V3A is for the pro tube twin

i have one of these amps i bought new in 96. i really like the gain channel, i think its one of the best fender gains ive heard. very classic rock sounding gain. i put all old tubes in it too which made it sound better also. i really like this amp. if your looking for modern metal sound keep looking.

Yeah....like many have said, there isn't much love for these amps. I would say sell it and get something you really want rather than butchering it up and losing any resale value. Barring that, like everyone else has said, try a Proco Rat, and an OD pedal like a Bad Monkey into the clean channel. And... Put a fresh NOS tube in V1. Additionally, if you are not turning the amp up to at least 8 on a regular basis you need a smaller amp anyway.

+1 to crappy Fender "gain" channels. It's not hard to design a decent gain channel...Fender just makes it look that way.
