  • Fender Hot Rod Deluxe - power amp in

Can I run another amp head into the power amp in of my Hot Rod Deluxe? Will this bypass the 40 watts of the Hot Rod? I'm looking to use it as a low volume practice cabinet by driving it with a 1/2 watt or 1 watt head.

When driving another amp head into your HRD power amp you still push the 40 watts of the HRD to your speaker (also the signal might be too strong for the HRDs power amp). But you could use just the cabinet and the speaker with another amp head.
    Look for the right impedance.
And watch out, since 1 watt can easily drive the neighbors nuts.

The power amp in jack is a place to send a signal directly into the amp's power amp stage. If the amp puts out 40 watts, then 40 watts is available to whatever signal you insert there. This is the exact opposite of bypassing the power stage of the amp - this is using the power stage and bypassing everything else.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

        How do I do this?

How do I bypass the HRD amp and connect another head for power supply? (As you may be guessing, I know little of the inner workings of my amp) Is this connection easily undone when I want to use the HRD in its original setup? I'd like to use a Rock Block for bedroom practice and then disconnect it for the occasional garage jam.
