6J7 Pentode Relacement

I have a Bell & Howell 179 Filmosound with a 6J7 in the preamp that is very noisy. I would like to replace it with something that does not have the attaching wire on top of tube. Any advice?

To go to a tube without a top cap you'd have to rewire the socket. 6J7's are not really that expensive to replace.
