  • Channel switching Marshall TSL

I have just figured out a way to use the amp control feature on the Boss GT8 (which is a simple open/close relay) with my Marshall TSL, which uses a 6 pin din plug for the footswitch. This uses a short-to-ground method for channel switching, so (looking at the back of the amp) the center pin is the ground and the top right pin is the clean channel. So basically if you short out these two pins, no matter what channel (crunch or lead) is selected, it will switch back to the clean channel.
So I made up a custom cable with a 1/4" jack on one end and a 6 pin din plug (with just the center and top right pins wired) on the other end.
I know, you can only switch between clean and either crunch or lead, defeating the purpose of TSL, but it's another tone option to play around with!!

Now here is my question to you....... Is it ok to switch the amp like this? Will it do any damage to it? There's a lot going on inside the footswich, its all on a circuit board...... not just a simple switch!!

Hi, can you provide any further details (I'm no electrician) so o can have a go at building the custom lead you mentioned?

I've been searching for a cheap way to control the channel on the tsl100 from boss gt pro, but until now hadn't found an answer, so thankyou.

I only use the clean and crunch channels generally, getting the lead boost from the boss unit, so your solution sounds perfect!

    Many thanks in anticipation

Take a look here for details on the TSL footswitch jack:

Does this solution also apply to the GMajor 1 ?

It should if it has the "switch out" stereo jack for channel switching.
