  • V32 -reducing brightness on clean channel?

    Ive modded my V32 with good results aimed mostly at the dirty channel. The clean channel is too bright for my tastes with humbuckers even. Looking at the schematic Im wondering if clipping(or making it switchable) the C52 will tame the brightness. TIA-Bob

    Yes, C52 is a "brite cap" and reducing the value would tame the highs, especially at low settings of the volume control. Also, C37 is a mild "treble peaking" circuit. It allows some of the highs to bypass that 2.2M resistor. It may help to remove this, but first try some lower values (or switch out, like you said) C52.

      Thanks! It helps a good bit taking the C52 out of the circuit. I made it switchable but had some intermitant trouble with noise. I temporarily shielded the wired and that helped. I guess I need some two wire shieled cable to use the switch. Bob

        Glad it helped the brightness issue. Not to assume, but make sure the brite switch is dressed properly. I know my own tendency used to be to sort of cram it in there; i wasn't careful because it's such a simple mod. Sometimes part of the switch would touch ground (usually via the back of the pot) and cause trouble. Also, I'm not 100% on this, but the 2.2M resistor would be in series with the volume pot w/o that cap, which may cause a hum. Again not sure about that one, maybe a more experienced member can comment on that...

          No hum but unshielded I seemned to get an "osillation"? which went away went I wrapped both wires in tin foil and shrink wrap with a third wire coming from inside the shrink wrap to ground. Im going to have to redo it with the proper shielded wire! Bob
