  • BF Bandmaster REmod(single channel w/reverb)

Hey guys, I modded my BF Bandmaster a few years back, and it did what I wanted it to, and well. Now I'm after a different sound.

I originally modded the normal channel to brownface specs, the vibrato channel to 5F6A preamp, with bias-vary trem on both channels. It sounded great for blues, warm and not loud. Now I'm in a 7-piece band, the other guitarist plays a Pro Reverb, and plays it loud.

I want to make it a single channel AB763 with reverb... Has anyone done this? If so, do you have a layout or photos of the board after the mod? I know I can make it work, I fit the Tweed Bassman pre in there before. I'm just hoping somebody's been here before and can help me through it... I found a schematic that's basically what I want, I may even use the Dwell, Mix, Tone... I dunno.

    Bottleneck at PI? Before?

So, I've ripped out all the wiring and component on V2 & V3, and wired up the extra gain stage from the -Reverb amps.

Sounds good, louder and more Fender-like... up to a certain point. After about 4-5 on the volume it starts to distort. This is definitely pre-amp(or PI) distortion. It also seemed a little bright and harsh. I will try other guitars and report back my thoughts.

I've taken the first gain stage cathode bypass cap out. I have some other things to try, but was wondering if anyone might have ideas what it might me....

If its distortion from the reverb driver circuit, it can sound horrible and you may need to attenuate the signal in reverb driver circuit in some way. If it the reverb is not loud enough, then you would be better to make up the gain on the recovery side. JM2CW

I didn't wire up the reverb driver yet, just the recovery side. I put a 470k from grid to ground for now.

There must be something that I'm missing. This amp has always had a bright, underpowered sound. When it gets loud it gets harsh distortion. I have got it to sound good with different mods I've done in the past, but I have never got it to be as loud as any other 40W Fender I've heard.

I have a Bassman OT in it, this thing should be louder/sound fuller. The only things original in the amp anymore(besides PT and Choke) are the blue tubular signal caps, and 6 resistors: (82k, 100k, and 2- 1M in PI) and 2 resistors in the bias circuit.
