Hi, I recalled seeing this and after a while I located it: no idea if this helps - but I hope it does...

"..A very simple, 30 watt valve combo amp which was produced during the aluminium fronted period. Basic volume and tone controls were fitted. Two slightly different versions have been identified - a small cabinet version with top carrying strap and a single 12" Goodmans speaker, and a larger combo with twin 12" speakers and side handles fitted. The output was achieved using 2-EL506, 1-ECC83, and 1-ECC82, plus 5 silicon diodes. (The EL506 is an obscure valve, difficult to find nowadays. Its modern equivalent is a Model 7868 nine pin power pentode.) This model seems to have replaced the All-Purpose 30 in 1971. Price for the twin-speaker model was £85...Its modern equivalent is a Model 7868 nine pin power pentode.

cheers, i think that was one of the sites that led me to possibly changing the tubes.
i actually had an all purpose 30 some time back and sold it because the price of the tubes was restrictive for me.

although the 7868's are now being produced again, the availability is about the same as the 506's here. and the price is the same for nos 506 as it is for EH 7868's which probably aren't as good either.

both are short term solutions really, and will cost me as much as the amp did just to re-tube it anyway. i may end up just starting my project over on an 18 watter and selling the selmer on to a collector. i may ruin any potential value it may have to someone.

or would that be abandoning a potentially well suited starting point for my project? looking at the price of transformers/ chassis etc.
i really want something with common tubes el34, el84, 6v6 i would be less worried about screwing it up while working on it then.

First you must investigate to know the OT impedance

(see here Output Transformer Impedance)

you know the voltages and knowing the impedance of the OT makes easier to find which tubes can be used in that amp

looks like it will definitely be useful if i decide to use one i dont have the details about.

what is the common feeling here about new vs. vintage transformers etc... you think it makes a difference?
