  • Moving the location of the master volume

I have been told there is a mod which moves the wired in location of the master volume from after the pre-amp to somewhere into the phase inverter. This is on a Fender showman or twin with a master volume

Anyone have any idea what this is or beter yet a wiring diagram

A very simple mod for these amps is to remove the stock MV circuit and connect what was the input to the MV directly to the phase inverter instead. Then wire up a "crossline" style post phase inverter MV such as used by Matchless Amps in a lot of their classic amps. Check schematics for the Chieftain, Clubman or Lightening for examples. You can use the stock 1M pot for this.

This may not be the best master volume, but it is simple to wire up, requires no new parts and actually works really well. making the MV in those old Fenders actually useful. I've got a silver face Super Reverb around here I did this to years ago, and I highly recommend it. The amp is so much more versatile with this MV than it would be without it. I've used the amp in plenty of places that I'd never get away with using a non-MV SR.
