  • Bright switch?

Hey guys, I want to install a bright switch on my amp that has a Vol-tone-M vol.Do I install it on the Vol or the Mvol? My amp sounds a little dark with Humbuckers, but ok with single coils. Also, when using humbuckers I get a quack type of sound which I don't like. Any suggestions on how to fix this? By the way ,the amp is a 5e3 with only one input. I'm assuming a 250pf cap on the bright switch is correct? Are there any other value caps I can use instead of the 250pf?(only because I don't have a 250pf cap here right now.)
    Thanks in advance!

...on the normal VOL, not on the Master-VOL. any capacitor value around 250pf (ie: 150-350pf) should be OK, but you'll want to "try" different values to find something that suits your taste.
...and the Devil said: "...yes, but it's a DRY heat!"

Well... the 500pF cap in the tweed tone control section is a bright cap... it is wired as a variable "volume control bright cap".
If you want it to sound better with humbuckers then reduce the coupling cap from the first triode from .1uf to .047uF or even .022uF and/or use a 680pF cap from the tone pot instead of the 500pF cap.

Since yours is a single channel 5E3 does that mean you only have one volume control?
If so, wire the tone and volume control like a brown face Deluxe (6G3) and that will increase the lower volume level brightness considerably.
Good for higher output pickups like the HBs.
