  • Fender Champ AA764 Filter caps.

I'm about to start building a Champ for my grand-daughter. The schematic/layout shows a 20/20/20 can cap. I'm going to use 3 individual caps. and wonder if I should use 3 22uf/500V caps. or maybe different values from "stock" ? Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Gary.

Three 22uF/500V will be just fine! If you're the type who is easily bothered by hum, you may consider adding an extra filter capacitor and a small choke at the front of your power supply chain. (Some early Champs and Princetons had this.)

      Thank you Scott.

A little hum wont be bothersome.

I like to use 40/40/20 caps to tighten things up some when I build Champ type clones.Elevating your heaters above ground will reduce any 60 cycle hum to almost zero.

Yes, I've learned about raising the heater wires ........... the hard way !!
