  • Bassman/Bandmaster OT exchange

I have a BF Bassman and a BF Bandmaster. Seeing as how I am more likely to use the Bassman for distorted guitar and use the Bandmaster for general purpose guitar with pedals and also pedal steel (and maybe occasional bass), I am thinking about putting the larger OT from the Bassman into the Bandmaster, and the smaller Bandmaster OT in the Bassman.

    What thinks ye?

The amps are similar as far as the second channel goes. Instead of swapping tranny's why not swap amps instead? Just thinking about what you said about using the Bandmaster for bass.

I put a post on this forum a few months back about how to optimize my Bassman for bass use, and a bunch of posters jumped all over me about how the Bassman was not in fact a good bass amp.

The Bandmaster #1) has a higher B+ voltage which makes me think it would be capable of more power/headroom, and #2) it has tremolo. The most likely use would be for doubling on guitar (vibrato channel) and pedal steel (normal channel) with external reverb etc.

Of course the OT is much larger in the Bassman, but look at the two power transformers and see if the Bassman has a bigger PT.
Just higher volts on the B+ rail isn't everything.
Depending on what you are trying to do, it seems like you want a normal channel 45 watt amp with vibrato so I'd put the larger OT and a bigger PT in the Bandmaster.
